In the beginning, Sati was bound to her beloved Shiva by an unbreakable bond of devotion. As the goddess and wife of Shiva, she was known for her fierce dedication and unwavering love. However, when King Daksha, Sati's father, organized a great yajna (sacrifice), he failed to invite the divine couple. Deeply insulted by this omission, Satī decided to attend the ceremony alone to assert her equality with the male deities. Upon arrival, she was met with further humiliation and disrespect from her father and his guests. Unable to bear such dishonor to her beloved Shiva, Sati plunged herself into the sacrificial fire - a final act of devotion that sealed their love in eternal flames. Her sacrifice moved Shiva so deeply that he carried her burning form across the heavens, causing torrents of rain to pour down as tears. In grief and fury, Shiva destroyed Daksha's yajna and beheaded him for his cruelty. From the ashes of Sati's funeral pyre, she was reborn as the beautiful goddess Parvati - the embodiment of divine grace and love. Through years of tapasya (austerities) and meditation, she slowly won back Shiva's heart, proving that love could conquer even death itself.
