Mohini's loveliness was unmatched. But power too lay in her sway. A demon named Bhasmasura sought to bind this force, to turn enchantment against its wielder. He won from Shiva a boon - that whoever he touched would turn instantly to ash. Then did he roam the lands, his touch a death sentence. Yet Mohini could not resist. When she danced before him, spellbound by her own artistry, Bhasmasura seized upon the chance. In one hand only he reached out towards the maiden fair. But no! She was quicker still. Her finger flew to touch his head instead - and in an instant Bhasmasura turned to ash. The demon's power had undone him.
