In ancient times, there lived a king named Shantanu who ruled the land of Hastinapur. He was known for his wisdom and fairness, but despite his good deeds, he could not find happiness in his personal life. One day, while fishing by the banks of the river Ganga, King Shantanu's eyes fell upon a beautiful woman bathing in the waters. Her beauty left him mesmerized, and he knew that she was someone special. He approached her and introduced himself as the king of Hastinapur. The woman, whose name was Ganga, was initially hesitant to interact with him but eventually agreed to marry him. Ganga and Shantanu fell deeply in love with each other. However, Ganga had a mysterious condition for their marriage - she would remain his wife for 100 years, after which she would return to the heavens along with her son, who would be born later. King Shantanu accepted Ganga's terms without any hesitation, as he was madly in love with her. Their love story became famous throughout the land, and people admired their deep bond and understanding. As time passed, Ganga gave birth to a brilliant son named Devavrata (who would later become Bhishma). However, after 100 years of marriage, Ganga kept her word and returned to the heavens with her son, leaving King Shantanu heartbroken. Though parted physically, their love story became an inspiration for generations, teaching them about the fleeting nature of human relationships and the beauty of love that transcends time and space.
