In the pantheon of celestial beings, there exists one whose tale is as old as time itself - Rahu. Born from the severed head of Svarbhanu, this entity holds a unique place in the cosmic lore. The story begins with the gods and goddesses gathered together to partake in the divine nectar of immortality, known as amrita. This elixir would grant them eternal life, ensuring their supremacy over all realms. But there was one outsider present - Svarbhanu, an asura who had managed to slip into their midst unseen. With cunning guile, he drank deeply from the cup of life itself, his thirst unquenched by mere drops. Yet, his presence amongst them remained hidden for only so long. The ever-watchful Sun and Moon, those celestial orbs that traverse the sky daily, spotted him in that moment and exposed his deceit. Vishnu, wielder of the Sudarshana Chakra - a disk of infinite power - stepped forward to deal with this trespasser. With one swift motion, he beheaded Svarbhanu, the amrita already having reached his head. Thus was born Rahu, an eternal being whose body perished but whose head remained immortal. Driven by his newfound immortality and the taste of divine nectar, Rahu began his pursuit of the Sun and Moon. Each time they crossed his path, he attempted to swallow them - causing eclipses that would forevermore darken the skies in remembrance of this tale. This is the mythic origin of Rahu - a story of deceit turned into legend, immortalized in celestial chronicles. It speaks of the consequences of desire and ambition gone unchecked, warning us all about the perils of envy and the thirst for power beyond our mortal reach.
